Position summary

We’re looking for a strategic and detail-oriented Legal & Compliance Officer to handle legal, regulatory, and compliance matters for House of Summary and its affiliated newsletters. You’ll draft and review contracts, advise on data protection and advertising law, and implement clear compliance policies across multiple jurisdictions. This is a flexible, part-time position ideal for a legal professional who thrives in fast-paced, international environments.

Assignment

We want to see how you think, analyze, and structure compliance frameworks in a fast-moving media business. This task tests your ability to combine legal reasoning, risk awareness, and operational practicality; the three pillars of effective compliance leadership.

Task Overview

House of Summary operates a network of newsletters and digital media properties including Presidential Summary, Geopolitical Summary, Dubai Summary, and London Summary.

Your goal is to show how you would protect the company’s interests, ensure regulatory compliance, and set up simple, scalable processes for a growing cross-border business operating in the US, EU, and UAE.

Choose one or more of the following directions:

Option 1: Compliance Framework

Outline a plan to design a compliance and governance framework for a growing media company. Include:

-Key policies and documents you’d prioritize (e.g., Privacy Policy, Ad Disclosure, Data Handling, Content Guidelines)-How would you ensure compliance across jurisdictions (US, EU, UAE)-How you’d structure internal compliance checks or audits

Option 2: Legal Risk Analysis

Identify and summarize three major legal risks for a digital newsletter business. Include:

-Description of each risk (e.g., advertising disclosures, copyright, data protection)-Practical mitigation steps-Example of how you’d communicate these risks to a non-legal founder or department head

Option 3: Contract and Policy Review

Draft or outline one of the following:

-A sample advertiser agreement clause covering disclosure, payment terms, and content liability-A short privacy policy paragraph explaining how user email data is collected and used-A freelancer or contributor clause addressing content ownership and confidentiality

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in corporate law, compliance, or legal operations
  • Strong knowledge of international business law, contracts, and privacy regulations
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Ability to translate legal complexity into practical business advice
  • Experience supporting cross-border entities or international teams
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills

Nice to have

  • Experience in media, tech, or digital publishing sectors
  • Knowledge of advertising and sponsorship compliance regulations
  • Familiarity with US, UAE, or Swiss corporate structures
